Christmas rant and ... Not a Christmas rant

SO I heard something today that shows how terribly people are misguided. They read a poem that said "Jesus is the real reason for the season." I SAY NAY NAY! Jesus is the reason for the HOLIDAY, not the season. SOLSTICE is the reason for the season. Let me explain why.

Most theologians and Bible historians (CHRISTIANS, as well as Atheists, I hasten to add.) agree that Jesus was supposedly born sometime around August, September, or maybe even early October circa 4-5 A.D. (A.D. does NOT stand for After Death, it stands for Anno Domini, or Year of Our Lord in Latin. The priest who began this calendar [still in use today] intended to start it on the year Jesus was born. He, apparently, was off.) So why do we celebrate Jesus' birthday on December 25th, instead of in August or September sometime?

A very simple answer, this be. CONVERSIONS. It's pretty much the same story as Halloween. The Catholic Church (Most corrupt organization on the planet, then as well as now.) saw a pagan festival, and rather then put forth the effort of stamping it out entirely, simply reworked it using their own symbols and deities as substitutes for the pagan ones. Solstice is the shortest day of the year, and after it, days must, of course, get longer. The pagans saw this as a time of rebirth, Mother Earth becoming fruitful and hospitable again. Humans are sight-oriented from birth, so daylight is associated with warmth and safety, so it was also seen as a bringing back of the light. Of course, the Catholics can't have that, so they made that day the celebration of the birth of their main deity, Jesus, and how his salvation was the light of the world. Eventually, the pagans converted, after some coercion, and this day become Christmas.

And so, I leave you with this.

(I have no idea why I posted that, but it's freaking catchy, huh?!)
